What is BYOS

BYOS means Build-Your-Own-System.  It is a term created by KF Cheng of IntelliLife HK for the purpose of easy understanding.  To make it simple:

BYOS is a simplified methodology that non-technical users can follow to build their own systems or websites, even though they do not have a technical background.

The purpose of BYOS is to solve real-life business problems using digital solutions.  It is a knowledge and skill set that need to be trained and practiced.  It is technical, but people without technical background can be trained.  When normal users think about their solutions, their mindsets are:

• this is the way I see it ...
• my concerns are ...
• you don't seem to understand ...
• this is how things should be done ...

If the normal users create their own digital solutions, the chemistry will evolve:

• things start to change, including their mindsets ...
• they review what has been done in the past ...
• they design new methodologies and workflows with improvements ...
• they discuss within themselves, plus other people involved ...
• and most importantly, they make sense ...
• change is no longer painful.  It's fun now ...

because this is their area, their expertise, and they do it for their own goods.

With these interesting and constructive findings, we recommend BYOS.  It is a nice practice for development of both the organizations and the individuals.  Our BYOS workshops are designed for these reasons.

In real-life, most actions are initiated from problems and needs.  In problem solving, we go through a lot of thinking, including rationale behind, sense-making, experiments, user experience, ...  And finally arrive at a solution we feel satisfactory.  The learning of problem-solving techniques is in the process.  Therefore, BYOS workshops are designed in a learning by experience manner, and in a problem-solving approach.  It is the experience that matters for training purpose.
